The number one excuse I hear for why things don’t get done is that they don’t have time. Last time I checked, we all have 24 hours in a day, 7 days in a week, 365 days in a year, 10 years in a decade, and 100 years in a century.
Yet we treat time like it is an infinite resource and that wasting it does not matter. The fact is that time is a finite resource and is more valuable than anything you have now or ever will have for the rest of your life. Without time, nothing else matters. When you are out of time, you don’t have time to build and nurture relationships. When you are out of time, you don’t have time to play with your kids or attend their ball games or recitals. When you are out of time, you can’t spend those final years with your parents or grandparents. Your time is you most precious resource.
You should decide what your priorities are and how you will allocate your time toward those priorities. I have a little exercise I ask people to do that is a real eye-opener. Take a piece of paper and list your top five priorities in your life. Then once that is done, list how many hours in a week you spend on those priorities. It is amazing how many people discover that their problem is a “time allocation” problem. We are spending too much time on things that don’t matter.
Take time today to decide what is important and then determine how much time you are willing to allocate to it. Create a “time budget” so that you are not spending more time than you need to on things that are lower in priority. Do this and the quality of your life and your business will improve. There is incredible power in the power of focus. Focus your time on what is most important and watch your results improve.
Have a Great Week!
Mike
